Legal Aid Offices (Het Juridisch Loket) will provide legal assistance to EU migrant workers in the Netherlands. Taking into account the large group of EU labor migrants in the Netherlands and the challenges posed by their legal questions, this service will be built in stages and wherever possible in native languages such as Polish, Bulgarian and Romanian, starting from North and South Holland, North Brabant and Limburg , regions where the largest number of economic migrants live and work, reports het Juridisch Loket. Migrant workers will be able to contact the Legal Aid Office free of charge both online and in person – in case of questions or legal problems, for example regarding rent, contracts, wages and insurance.
Labor migrants often find themselves in a difficult situation in the Netherlands and often do not know what they are entitled to and how to claim their rights. In this regard, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Justice and Security asked Juridisch Loket to offer easily accessible multilingual legal assistance also to EU migrant workers and those in difficult situations.
Improving access to justice for EU migrant workers and those in vulnerable situations is one of the recommendations of the “Aanjaagteam Bescherming Arbeidsmigranten“. (Economic Migrant Protection Program)
The “Aanjaagteam Bescherming Arbeidsmigranten” led by Emile Roemer issued recommendations in 2020 to improve the situation of migrant workers in the Netherlands and combat abuses.
The report describes progress in implementing these recommendations in 2023.
