The new Burgemeester Van Grunsven square in Heerlen will be officially ‘opened’ on Thursday 15 September. The previously gray square has gone through a drastic metamorphosis: it is cozier and greener, more sustainable and circular.
Alderman for center development Jordy Clemens: “The new Van Grunsven square will soon not only be a great event location, but also a beautiful, green place to stay and a wonderful place to live. After a long time of work, the residents have earned it definitely as far as I am concerned.”
The result is something to be proud of and celebrated with a festival that is fun for all the family. Anyone is welcome between 16.00 and 20.30.
It will start with the awards for the winners of the Recycle Challenge. From 4.30 pm there are all kinds of activities on the square. Including music, dance workshops, an inflatable castle and BMX track. Children can have their faces painted or get a glitter tattoo. There are also plenty of food trucks. Entrance is free. This metamorphosis of the Burgemeester van Grunsven square is part of the Heerlen-Centrum programme. An overview of all projects can be found at www.heerlen.nl/centrum.
