The Armenian Apostolic Church Surp Karapet in Maastricht has marked a historic moment with the official signing of the deed of purchase for its church building — a landmark event for the Armenian community in Limburg.

The deed was signed on behalf of Surp Karapet Church by Chairman Levon Sarkis, while representing the seller, the Roman Catholic Parish of Christus Hemelvaart, was Very Reverend Pastor René Schols.

Consecrated on January 26, 2013, by His Eminence Archbishop Norvan Zakarian of the Diocese of Paris, with the blessing of His Excellency Bishop Frans Wiertz of the Diocese of Roermond, Surp Karapet was the first Armenian church in Limburg. Since then, it has served as a vital spiritual and cultural hub for the local Armenian community.

Chairman Levon Sarkis expressed his gratitude, saying:
“We thank God for this extraordinary milestone and ask for His blessing over the future of our church. May Surp Karapet be a source of faith, hope, and love — not only for the Armenian community, but for all who seek a spiritual home here.”

Special thanks were extended to donors, parish councils, the Diocese of Roermond, Bishop Ron van den Hout, Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Dean John Dautzenberg, Pastor René Schols, and Mr. Antoine C.J. Huenges Wajer for their support and trust throughout the process.

The church board also called on the wider community to contribute financially, ensuring that Surp Karapet Church can be maintained and strengthened as a “House of God” for generations to come.
