Former Dutch MP, former Ambassador for International Cultural Cooperation and former Mayor of the Dutch city of Wassenaar Jan Hoekema has been nominated by the Government of Armenia as country’s Honorary Consul in the province of North Holland. Holland.
Ambassador Tigran Balayan of Armenia handed out the nomination documents to Jan Hoekema at the Embassy on June 13 at the reception on the occasion. “Jan Hoekema had a long career in international, national and local politics, as well as in culture. He served this beautiful country in many roles. His experience in these fields will be an asset for Armenia to further promote the country and its rich culture and assist us in multiplying the already great number of Dutch friends of Armenia”, said Ambassador Balayan.
Jan Hoekema: “I visited Armenia twice in recent years and am impressed by both the history and the strength of the country. With mature democracy well established and tied to the EU by the partnership agreement, Armenia stands out as a proud member of the family of European nations. I am proud and privileged to contribute my share to this by now acting in this new capacity for the interests of the country”.
