”Cold War” by Pawel Pawlikowski from Poland has been nominated for Oscars 2019 in three categories; Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film and Cinematography.

Nominations were announced on Tuesday morning by Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross. The Academy Awards will air live Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on ABC.
Cold War is a historical period drama set in Poland and France during the period of Cold War from the late 1940s until the 1960s. It presents the story of a musical director (played by Tomasz Kot) who discovers a young singer (played by Joanna Kulig) and follows their subsequent love story over the years. The film is loosely inspired by the lives of Pawlikowski’s parents.
Cold War was enthusiastically received by crtitics. It competed for the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Pawlikowski won there the award in the category Best Director. Cold War also received the Golden Lions Award at the 43rd Gdynia Film Festival, five 2018 European Film Awards and four nominations at the 72nd British Academy Film Awards including Best Direction and Best Film Not in the English Language.
