Russian Loveless shortlisted for Oscars 2018

Loveless (Russian: Нелюбовь) is a 2017 Russian drama film which has been shortlisted for Oscars 2018 in the category best foreign film. It is directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev and written by Oleg Negin. The story presents two separated parents who do not live together and who do not love each other anymore. They are brought together by a tragedy:  their only young child, a twelve year old boy, Alexey becomes a missing person and they attempt to find him.

Loveless was shot in Moscow and won the Jury Prize at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. It also won in the category: director in The Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA), Silver Frog at the Camerimage, International Adana Film Festival in the category best international film, London Film Festival in the category: best film, The Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA),  Best Foreign Language Film, Munich International Film festival in the category:  Best International Film, The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures: Top Five Foreign Language Film, Zagreb Film Festival in the category: Together Again Best Film.

This year record number of 92 films has been submitted for consideration in this year’s foreign-language Oscar race.
Among the first-time entrants are Haiti, Honduras, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mozambique, Senegal, and Syria.

The Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 4 2018 and will be broadcast live to more than 225 countries.
