Glory (Bulgarian: Слава/Slava) is a 2016 Bulgarian-Greek drama film. It was directed by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanow. It was written by the two directors along with screenwriter Decho Taralezhkov.
It did not reach best foreign film shortlist unfortunately.
The film deals with morality issues and depicts the story of a reclusive railway worker who finds a large amount of money piled on the tracks. However when he hands in the money a transport ministry PR woman decides to use him and the find as a diversion from a corruption scandal, turning his life upside down.
Glory has already won dozens of awards worldwide since its international premiere in Locarno last year, including best international feature at this year’s Edinburgh film festival,
Bulgaria has been submitting films to the Academy Awards since 1970 but had never won an Oscar. In 2010 Stephan Komandarev’s The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner made the January shortlist.

Glory has already won various awards worldwide since its international premiere in Locarno last year, where it received a special mention from the International Federation of Film Societes (FICC/IFFS) jury.
It won best international feature at this year’s Edinburgh film festival.
At the Avvantura Film Festival in Zadar, Croatia, Glory won the Grand Prix as well as the Best Actor award (Stefan Denolyubov).
In the 15th edition of Tirana International Film Festival, Glory won the Best Feature Film.
Glory won the top prize at the 2016 Hamptons International Film Festival, the HIFF Award for Best Narrative Feature Film, consisting of a film production-services package worth more than $125,000 along with a $3,000 cash prize.
At the 2016 KineNova film festival in Skopje, Glory won the best film award.
At the Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival in September 2016, Glory won the Special Award of the City of Varna, the Best Screenwriter Award, the Best Cinematographer Award to Krum Rodriguez for his work on both Glory and Godless, the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers Award, and the Accredited Journalists’ Award.
At Film Fest Gent in October 2016, Glory received a special mention from the jury, which said it admired the film “for its humor and its political and moral honesty”.
In the 15th edition of Tirana International Film Festival, Glory won the Best Feature Film.
In the last few years, Bulgaria has been represented at the Oscars by Ivaylo Hristov’s Losers (2017), Stephan Komandarev’s The Judgement (2016), Ivan Nitchev’s Bulgarian Rhapsody, Emil Hristov’s The Color of the Chameleon (2014), Valeri Yordanov and Ivan Vladimirov’s Sneakers, and Viktor Chouchkov’s Tilt. The country was shortlisted for a nomination in 2010, with Komandarev’s The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner.
This year record number of 92 films have been submitted for consideration in this year’s foreign-language Oscar race.
Among the first-time entrants are Haiti, Honduras, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Mozambique, Senegal, and Syria.
The Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 4 2018 and will be broadcast live to more than 225 countries.
