This afternoon, children’s aldermen/mayor and members of the children’s council of the Dutch city of Heerlen met with the mayor of Heerlen Emil Roemer and the alderman Jordy Clemens whose portfolio includes among others youth and culture issues.
Children asked the Mayor and aldermen various questions concerning their functions, responsibilities and also hobby and private life.
The Mayor of Heerlen and the alderman listened with great interest to their children counterparts and asked them questions in return concerning their work and the districts they come from.
Children for example are working now on the idea box which is visiting various schools where children can cast there their ideas concerning their life in Heerlen. These ideas will be discussed further with the aldermen Jordy Clemens.
The Mayor of Heerlen and the aldermen Jordy Clemens also prepared a very exciting surprise for children. They asked them to open the formal council of the Dutch city and tell the council about their work.
Heerlen by launching that sort of initiatives is setting fantastic examples for other municipalities in the Netherlands and abroad.
Children’s aldermen/mayor and members of the children’s council of the Dutch city of Heerlen were installed in the town hall in Heerlen by the alderman Jordy Clemens in July. Heerlen’s new children’s board consists of four girls: Victoria Bruggeman, Jenny Albers, Britt Lendi and Pien Vanhommerig. They are appointed aldermen and every three months they will take over the responsibilities of the mayor. Daphne Goddschmitz and Milan Weijers were appointed members of the children’s council.
Their activities are coordinated by the youth organisation Alcander.
