Jozef Oleksy, a former Prime Minister of Poland, dies

Jozef Oleksy, a former Prime Minister of Poland, died on Friday at the age of 68.

Oleksy, who led the post-Communist Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), was prime minister in democratic Poland between 1995 and 1996 and speaker of parliament from 1993 to 1995 and from 2004 to 2005.

Oleksy represented the Communist party in round table talks with the opposition Solidarity movement in early 1989 which led to the establishing of the Third Republic of Poland.
