Hungarian born, well-known architect Peter Sigmond dies at the age of 83 in Weert ( Limburg )
Peter Sigmond was born in Budapest on May 21, 1932. He studied architecture at the Technical University of Budapest and fled after the invasion of the Russians in 1956 to London. He spent three years in England and then moved to the Netherlands. He designed famous landmarks of the architecture in Heerlen such as the shopping mall ‘t Loon and the unique Vasco houses in the district Vrieheide-De Stack. His designs: ‘’Villa Goessen’’ and ‘’Pastoor Van Askerk” have had a national monument status since 2013 and are included in the list of special buildings in the Netherlands from the period 1959-1965. The Vrieheide district is included in ‘’de Atlas van de Wederopbouw’’( the Atlas of the Reconstruction.) [1]
Peter Sigmond deceased at the age of 83 in Weert and will be cremated on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Heeze.
