European Fairytale Centre from Pacanów in Brunssum

On September 26th the Matołek the Billy Goat European Fairytale Centre from Pacanów (Poland) was present virtually at the Polish School of the Polish Embassy in Brunssum (Limburg, The Netherlands). Beata Bruggeman-Sękowska from Communications-Unlimited, which is an official partner of the European Fairytale Centre, oficially handed in a letter from the director of the Center Ms Karolina Kępczyk to the director of the Polish School Ms Bożena Cicha in which  the activities of the Centre and the possibilities for  further cooperation were described.

Beata Bruggeman-Sękowska delivered a presentation for the Parents Commitee about the European Fairytale Centre discussing such subjects as: history of the centre, the present situation, activities for children and their parents, events, future and international cooperation.

Beata Bruggeman-Sękowska pointed out that the Centre is really unique since it combines entertainment and education both for children and parents who in an interactive way can experience the fairytale world.

Children from the Polish School in Brunssum already took part in the contest organized by the Centre: My Favourite Fairytale Character by sending almost 40 works to Pacanów.

Now the Polish school is looking forward to the visit of Matołek the Billy Goat and his Centre.

ECB was called established in 2005 by Pacanów Commune and Regional Government of Świętokrzyskie Voivodship with the aim to transform Pacanów in the European Capital of Fairytales.

The idea came from Waldemar Dąbrowski – Minister of Culture in 2002 – 2005. In 2003 he initiated the first Festival of Children Culture. The Festival triggered creation of a modern cultural centre of international importance with the mission to teach through playing. You couldn’t have deramt of a better site in Poland than Pacanów. It is the place for which Matołek the Billy Goat was searching the whole world.

In 2010 the European Fairytale Centre was established in a modern multifunctional building featuring a library, reading room, bookshop, cinema, theatre hall and workshop facilities. The building is surrounded by the garden with summerhouses and a blacksmith’s workshop to commemorate the famous blacksmiths from “120 Journeys of Matołek the Billy Goat”. By the pond, there is also an amphitheatre. This modern facility was financed from Financial Mechanism of European Economic Area, Ministry for Culture and National Heritage, Regional Government of Świętokrzyskie Voivodship and Pacanów Commune.
