Heerlen: Modern mine museum about the unique history of the region

‘’The history of Heerlen and Parkstad is inseparably connected with the history of mining. That deserves a modern mine museum about the unique history of our region!’’ said Jordy Clemens, alderman of the Heerlen Municipality.

The Dutch Mine Museum in Heerlen will undergo modernization. According to plan there will be two new wings, a simulation cellar and an experience elevator in the preserved shaft building of the Oranje Nassau I.
The board will receive three million euros from the municipality. Another million will be needed though to put the plan into action, therefore funds, external investors and the government of the Region of Limburg are contacted. If it does not work, the museum will have to choose a more modest version of revitalization.

One thing is certain, an experience elevator will be there to let the visitors not only  listen to the stories but also experience the mining history.
